Caring for long hair takes a lot more time compared to caring for short hair or hair of normal length. Just washing and drying long hair can be quite a task in itself. Below are some tips on managing long hair.

Long Hair Care Tips
Avoid sleeping with tightly braided hair or hair in a tight ponytail. The stress can cause breakage and/or hair loss.

When your hair is braided, make sure that it is not too tight or it could cause breakage and/or hair loss.

If your hair is braided or you have a ponytail, use a specially treated band or scrunchie which will prevent breakage of your hair, limit your use of clips, bows, and untreated bands.

Even if you plan on growing your hair out further you should trim your hair once every 3 months, if not split ends will cause your hair to break off and your hair will begin to lose it’s beauty, if you plan on just maintaining your length, a trim once every month and a half to two months should suffice.

Don’t use a brush to detangle your hair, this will stretch your hair and may cause your hair to break off. Instead use your fingers, a pick, or a wide tooth comb to detangle your hair.

When detangling your hair work your way from the tips of your hair up to the hair roots. Work on detangling one section of your hair at a time and go in a downward direction.

Be gentle when detangling, pulling down on your hair too hard will cause breakage.

If you detangle your hair before washing it, it’ll be easier to dry and style as well as decrease the knots and tangles after you are done washing your hair.

Don’t rub your hair dry with a towell, instead blot the water out of your hair, when you rub, it’ll cause your hair to tangle.

Hair can get caught on cotton pillow cases and break when you are sleeping especially if you toss and turn a lot when you sleep. Using a satin or silk pillowcase where your hair will make it so that hair will slide across the pillowcase without getting caught. Another tactic to prevent breakage is to put your hair up in a ponytail on the top of your head with a scrunchie or specially treated band (that prevents breakage).

An alternative to the silk pillowcase is to wear a satin or silk scarf over your hair before your sleep to prevent breakage.

Brushing your hair is important because it spreads the the hair oils out across the length of your hair. Use long strokes starting from the roots of your hair when brushing and stroke your hand over your hair after you are done brushing to get rid of static.
How to Make Hair Grow Faster

Want long, healthy hair fast? Need to make your hair grow faster? Try these simple tips.

Maybe you got a bad haircut and want your hair to grow fast. Or maybe you’re tired of your look and want to go longer. Or perhaps your hair is thinning and you want it to grow in quickly. Whatever the reason, there are easy steps you can take to accelerate hair growth.

* Get a good, professional haircut. Ask your stylist to cut off dry, split ends and give you a style that will grow in thick and beautiful. The goal is to get your hair in healthy condition to maximize hair growth.
* Trim the ends. As your hair grows in, return for regular trims every 6 to 8 weeks to keep hair healthy, strong, and in the best condition to grow long.
* Wash your hair every few days. Washing hair too often pulls the strands, damages the scalp, and rids your hair of the natural oils essential for growing long, thick hair.
* Gently condition hair every day. Put extra conditioner on the ends and leave it in after rinsing. Use warm water and a cool rinse — never immerse hair in hot water.
* Don’t let your hair get tangled. Knots and tangles interfere with the hair’s ability to grow long and thick.
* Don’t tease your tresses. Avoid overusing hair dryers, curlers, hot rollers, curling irons, or straightening irons. They all cause hair to become brittle and break.
* Get your zzzzs. Chronic lack of sleep can affect our bodies’ chemical balance, which influences everything, including our hair growth. So make a point of getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night, and rest when you’re tired.
* Improve your diet. Hair is made up of proteins and nutrients. So our hair, like our bodies, can become malnourished when fed improperly. By eating the right foods we literally nourish our hair and encourage it to grow. Foods that have a positive effect on hair growth are:
-Lean meat and poultry
-Fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon
-Beans
-Eggs
-Yogurt
-Nuts and seeds
-Kiwi
-Apples
-Grapes
-Spinach
-Strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries
-Broccoli
-Green beans
-Cabbage
-Cauliflower
* Reduce your stress. This will slow your natural rate of hair loss, which enables growing hair to flourish. Some stress-reducing techniques are deep breathing, regular exercise, mediation, yoga, or enjoying a hobby or recreational activity such as reading, cooking, or gardening.
* Get your vitamins. Vitamins A, B, C, and E are essential for hair growth, but too much vitamin A can actually cause hair loss, so be sure to take no more than 100,000 IU each day. Beta carotene, magnesium, silica, nettle, flaxseed oil, and folic acid may also improve hair growth. Add a multivitamin to your daily routine. Talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or health food store owner to select a multivitamin that’s right for your body.
* Work out. Daily exercise improves circulation throughout your body, including your scalp, which can result in faster hair growth. Be sure to get your heart pumping at least 3 to 4 times each week.

Caring for Long Hair

Love Blake Lively’s long, healthy hair? Find out how to care for and maintain long hair.

Long, loose locks are the trend on the runway and red carpet this season. Long hair is beautiful, sexy, lush, but it can be hard to maintain. When healthy and well cared for, long hair looks spectacular whether loose, pulled back, worn in an updo, or any combination of styles. But unhealthy, messy, or damaged, long hair looks terrible any way you wear it. Prone to damage, breakage, split ends, unruly in the summer or dry in the winter, long hair needs special care to stay healthy and gorgeous. Here’s how to care for long hair.

* Wash your hair gently but thoroughly several times a week. Use a top quality shampoo that is formulated for your type of long hair — dry, normal, combination, or oily. Scrub the hair on your scalp and massage down to the ends of your long hair.
* Use a top quality conditioner on your hair every day. Pay special attention to long hair’s ends, adding extra conditioner and pressing into the ends of your long hair gently
* Rinse long hair with warm, then cool water — not hot. Hot water can damage your long hair, causing it to look frizzy and become difficult to manage and style.
* Dry your long hair gently with a soft towel or cotton T-shirt, squeezing out excess moisture. Never wrap long hair in a towel, twist, and place on top of your hard to dry, as this will cause hair to become damaged and rough.
* Consider using a leave-in conditioner or detangler. If your long hair is curly or thick, these leave-in styling products can keep hair soft and manageable.
* Invest in a top quality hairbrush with natural bristles and wide toothed comb to detangle your long hair. Comb through wet hair from roots to tips, making sure the ends are completely tangle free without pulling on the ends to make them so.
* Dirty brushes make dirty long hair. Be sure to remove hair that gets stuck in your brush or comb every day. Then wash and dry your brushes and combs once a week. To clean hair brushes and combs, soak in warm water and shampoo for 5 minutes, rinse, and let dry on a towel overnight.
* Make every attempt to let your long hair dry naturally, but if you must use a blow dryer, keep it on a cool setting and avoid pulling long hair while you dry it.
* Choose hair accessories wisely-not all of them are suitable for women with long hair. Avoid elastic bands and opt for soft cloth ‘scrunchies’ instead. Use styling combs and bands with strong teeth, as week ones will break off in. your long hair and get tangles. Experiment with updos, braids, and other hairstyles that suit you, but be sure you don’t tug, pull, or wrangle your long hair in any way that can cause damage.
* Trim your long hair every 6-8 weeks to remove split ends and excess hair weight that can make hair oily, frizzy, or dry.
* Protect long hair from perspiration when you exercise, chlorine when you swim in a pool, and the sun when you are outside in the summer months. Pull long hair off face and neck, apply extra conditioners when needed, cover hair in a hat, and cleanse hair thoroughly after it has been exposed to excessive sun, salt water, chlorine, sweat, or other elements.
* Your lifestyle shows in your long hair. Excessive stress, lack of sleep, smoking, and poor eating and exercising habits make it harder to keep your hair healthy. Eat a nutritious diet rich in vitamins and protein, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, get some rest, avoid cigarettes, and your hair will boast its healt.

Hair-care-tips

Caring for your hair doesn’t have to be so hard! Looking for healthy, shiny, gorgeous hair every day? Follow these foolproof hair-care tips to keep your hair looking beautiful.

* Basic hair care means you should shampoo hair to remove dirt, hair oil, dead skin cells, and a buildup of hair-care products. This keeps hair healthy and beautiful. Use warm water instead of hot — hot water can dry and irritate your scalp.
* Depending on your hair type, you should wash your hair every day, every other day, or once a week. If your hair is dry, shampoo only two or three times per week. If you have African-American hair, shampooing once a week or every ten days is fine. If your hair is oily, shampoo every day to remove excess oils and unclog pores.
* Use conditioner after shampooing or instead of shampoo. Conditioner cleans and also moisturizes hair; protects it from sun, wind, and dirt; adds shine, reduces hair static, and makes it easier to untangle. When using conditioner, spread evenly throughout hair, leave it on for a few minutes, and rinse hair gently to remove.
* Avoid concentrating the conditioner on the hair roots — roots contain the most oils and don’t need added conditioning (like the ends do).
* Try a leave-in conditioner to keep hair extra hydrated.
* Be gentle when shampooing and conditioning your hair. (Hair is most fragile when wet.) Don’t scrub, force a comb through tangles, or vigorously massage your scalp.
* Brushing wet hair can cause your hair to break, so avoid brushing or combing when hair is wet and vulnerable. Instead, gently run your fingers through your wet hair to detangle, and then brush hair when it is almost completely dry.
* Never pull on your hair while drying, as this can cause damage, breakage, and split ends.
* To protect your hair while brushing, begin at the ends (using downward strokes) and then work your way up to the base of your hair (again, always brush hair with downward strokes).
* Use a hairbrush with bristles made of natural animal hairs to avoid damaging your hair.
* Avoid using plastic combs or plastic brushes on hair, since they can create static.
* Dirty brushes make dirty hair. Be sure to remove hair that gets stuck in your brush or comb every day. Then wash and dry your brushes and combs once a week. To clean hair brushes and combs, first remove any stuck hair, then soak in warm water and shampoo for five minutes, rinse, and let dry on a towel overnight.
* Be thoughtful about hair-styling products — choose the right ones and avoid using more than necessary.
* Never put hair-styling products directly on your scalp; instead work them through your hair with your hands.
* It’s best not to blow-dry, but if your hairstyle calls for regular hair-dryer use, use the cool setting, as hot air can cause damage.
* Also, your hair and scalp can burn if you leave the dryer in one spot — or too close to your scalp — for too long. Hold it several inches away from your hair at all times, and keep it moving.
* Trim your hair every six to eights weeks to remove split ends and excess hair weight that can make hair oily, frizzy, or dry.
* Your lifestyle shows in your hair. Excessive stress, lack of sleep, smoking, and poor eating and exercising habits take a toll on your hair. Eat a nutritious diet rich in vitamins and protein, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, get enough rest, avoid cigarettes, and your hair will boast its health.
