Zlatan Ibrahimovic bankrupt LA Galaxy’s club record for goals in a year in their 7-2 victory over Sporting Kansas City on Sunday and netted a hat-trick.
Even the 37-year-old scored his 25th, 24th and 26th aims of the campaign snap a four-match winless run.
Ibrahimovic scored his first goal after his first penalty was rescued before surpassing the past goalscoring record of Carlos Ruiz with 2 left-footed strikes.
Joe Corona, Uriel Antuna plus a dual from Sebastian Lletget helped Galaxy to their convincing victory.
Ibrahimovic has scored 48 goals in 51 matches in the MLS.
“I think I’m the very best ever to play in MLS. And that is without joking,” Ibrahimovic stated.
“Scoring goals is simple, you simply need to be similar to Zlatan and it’s coming,” said the former Manchester United striker, who is two objectives behind top scorer Carlos Vela.
“I strive to aid the team in the best manner and that’s by scoring goals. I scored and I must keep going, that is to score goals and I have to help my team in the best manner and make it much easier for everybody.
“it is a terrific outcome, it was a good game.
“The end result says something else however, the first half was very even, we played with a great team which plays good football. At the second we were more powerful and we were scoring so that was the difference, once we obtained the chances.
“It’s great, we’ve got four games to go. To acquire, to get the assurance to score goals for your goal gap. Everyone did a good job, even if we were a tiny bit tired in the finish, but we did a pretty fantastic job.”
LA Galaxy went into a point ahead of San Jose, fifth place at the Western Alliance and just two facing Portland.
