Saturday’s Week 2 NFL Preseason Trifecta

After checking out the NFL chances board, I noticed the line with this game had tumbled from Patriots -3 into where it now stands, in this Friday morning composing, to Patriots -1. All of us know how crucial the number three is at football and anytime the number goes off of it, I get suspicious, especially in preseason play. The Pats destroyed the Lions 31-3 final week into their preseason opener and it would not surprise me a little bit to visit Belichick tinker with the game program to learn how his troops play under specific conditions. There is nothing the coaching legend enjoys over a hybridvehicle, a participant who is called on to execute a variety of jobs and assume different roles. This sport smacks of this ideal period for New England to start experimenting so financing a group like the Titans within our NFL selections is the intelligent move ahead. Grab the small number.

Betting preseason football is obviously a small roll of the dice but there are a few trends we can sniff out which will give us a slender one way or another. Perhaps chief among those are the coaching records which can indicate how important a head coach views losses and wins in the exhibition period. Look no farther than Detroit’s Matt Patricia who possesses a 1-4 preseason album versus Texans’ head coach Bill O’Brien who appears to place great import on Week 2 of the preseason slate using a 4-1 mark in those contests. Moreover, Detroit will need to rely on prior San Jose State, and sixth-round select of their 2014 draft, David Fales as well as recently signed journeyman Josh Johnson to direct the assault with No. 1 backup Tom Savage on the sidelines courtesy of a possible concussion suffered in last week’s loss to New England. This does not bode well for Detroit and thus we’ll put our dough over the Texans.

Both these clubs failed to find the endzone last week as Dallas lost 17-9 into the 49ers while the Rams dropped 14-3 to the Raiders. But once again, something smells a little fishy in this one as the Rams started as three-point house favorites but now the Cowboys are ranging from 2 to 2 1/2 point road chalk. The big names on both sides won’t see much if any activity within this meaningless preseason lean but I wouldn’t be surprised to find that the Cowboys emerging victorious, or covering the number in what is shaping up for a close contest. The Rams are 1-5 ATS in their last six Saturday games and the Cowboys are trying to put emphasis in their running attack now that it seems as though Ezekiel Elliot is intent on pulling out a Le’Veon Bell this season and sit until he gets what he desires. This looks like a ground-and-pound matchup and because Dallas needs to know what they have in the backfield, expect them to use their major backs more than the Rams. Todd Gurley will not understand the area and that is excellent news for the Boys.
Final rating: Cowboys 17 — Rams 14
