The Westerners hadn’t won the title since 2013, and several could question their victory once they backed up their National League title with the campaign in which they beat Cork and Kilkenny.
The Tribeswomen scored three first-half goals that proved crucial, as a brace from Ailish O’Reilly and a Niamh Hanniffy attempt helped them into a 3-7 to 0-10 lead at the break. The Cats worked their way back in the tie, and hauled it back to 3 points approaching accident time.
As they ran out winners, But a run of Galway points, including an attempt from Niamh Kilkenny, steered them.
