Galway are champions for another time, after a 3-14 to 0-17 triumph at Croke Park over Kilkenny.
The match was played in front of a crowd at the Jones’ Road venue as 24,730 appreciated the game.
The title had not been won by the Westerners since 2013, and few will question their triumph as soon as they backed their National League name with the campaign in which they conquer both Cork and Kilkenny.
The Tribeswomen scored three goals which proved critical, as a brace from a Niamh Hanniffy effort and Ailish O’Reilly helped them to 0-10 lead at the break into a 3-7. The Cats worked their way back in the tie, and hauled it back into just three points upcoming accident time.
As they ran outside six-point winners, But an overdue run of Galway points, such as an eye-popping effort from Niamh Kilkenny, steered them home.
